As area parents and students prepare for the new school year, below is a list of events and back to school bashes offering free backpacks and school supplies. Courtesy of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, the following organizations are offering free backpacks and school supplies:
Care Help of Sulphur
Care Help of Sulphur is a program provides much needed assistance with school uniforms, basic supplies and shoes for low income Sulphur residents. If you need assistance come to the Sulphur First Baptist Church gym, located at 517 S. Huntington St. and fill out an application. Apply Tuesday, August 4, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, August 5, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You many also fill out the applcation on the Care Help of Sulphur Facebook

Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 5 p.m. - Impartation Revival Center & Bethel of Praise
If your in need of items to get your kids ready to go back to school, Impartation Revival Center & Bethel of Praise
will be giving away backpacks and schools supplies while they last. During the event families can enjoy free hot dogs, drinks and various games as well.
Impartation Revival Center & Bethel of Praise is located at 6781 Tom Hebert Road,in Lake Charles. Please note all children must be accompanied by a parent.
Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 7 p.m. - Christian Baptist Church
This Wednesday come to Christian Baptist Church (South Campus) for their School Supply and Uniform Give Away. The church will be giving a school supplies and gently used school uniforms while supplies last. Christian Baptist Church is located at 4460 Fifth Avenue, in Lake Charles. Please note an adult must accompany all children.
August 8, 2015 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. - Axiall 20th Annual Back to School Bash
This event will take place at the Pryce Miller Recreation Center, located at 216 Albert Street, in Lake Charles. Backpacks and school supplies will be given away while supplies last and all area wide students are invited.
There will also be a fun day for the entire family, complete with free food and refreshments, games, face painting, space walk, door prizes and much more.

The Salvation Army is also taking applications for families whose children are in need of school supplies. For more details call 337-433-4155.
