Happy New Year! We made it. Now what? Look, just because it's a new year doesn't mean we won't encounter problems or have more bad days. That kinda stuff comes with the territory of this thing we call life. However, we can use this event called New Year's and make an effort to make some positive life changes.

I have a New Year's Resolution every year, and to be honest I stick to the plan most of the year. I usually fall off around October. But, I going to keep at it. Each year I set a goal to get back on top of good eating habits, going back to the gym, making sure I drink more water and just trying to work on being a better person and seeing other people's points of view.

Whether you have faith in New Year's Resolutions or not, we can all do something to improve our quality of life. According to the Oxford Dictionary the word Resolution means a firm decision to do or not to do something; or the quality of being determined or resolute. So, it's just a matter of committing yourself, a loved one, or your family that you are going to stick with.

For example: If you have friends that cause drama in your life (school, job, or relationships), it may be time to cut ties. If you are unhealthy and on medication because of your day-to-day diet or you are overweight, now is a good time to improve your wellness. Start with small things that can make a big impact. Such as cutting down on sugar. Count out sodas and juice and drink water instead. Commit to taking a walk once a week or once a day and build on as you go.

If you are in an unhealthy relationship, now may be a good time to move on and focus on yourself and your happiness. If you spend too much, set a budget and follow it.
That's all a New Year's Resolution is.

It's a commitment to do better, be better, feel better, evolve, and bring order to your life. Trim your tree, if you will. Negative people, bring negative energy, cut those leaves out of your life so you can grow. Smoking is a bad habit, regardless of what you smoke. Too much of anything isn't always good for us.

At the end of the day, with a new year, we can all find areas in our lives that need a little tweaking. Usually, the first part of the year is a good time to make life changes, because it gives you an official starting point.

The first part of the year is a time to reset and refocus. Remember, to set obtainable goals so that you can achieve your New Year's Resolution. Also, don't get down on yourself if you fall off now and then. It's not how you fall, it's how you get up! Just...get back on it.
