Kenner, La. — Cloe Woods is hands down a hero. According to NOLA.com, after a fire broke out in the home of the pre-kindergaten student, she calmly jumped into action when she heard the smoke alarm, and led her grandmother, who is blind, out of the house by having her hold on to her shoulder. With their dog not far behind, they made it out of the home safely where the 5-year-old then ran to neighbors asking for help and a bucket of water.

A school field trip to a Kenner Fire Department station is being hailed as how Cloe knew to keep calm and get everyone out of the house safely.

Kenner Fire Chief John Hellmers said the fire was accidental, and began on the stove. The kitchen and living room suffered smoke and water damage. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family find a new home, and replace smoke-damaged clothing.
