Mo'ne Davis is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to baseball.  The 13-year old, is one of the stars on the Taney Dragons baseball team.  The Mid-Atlantic champions from Philadalphia, kicked off their Little League World Series tournament on Friday August 15th, beating South Nashville, Tennessee 4-0 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Mo'ne's historic performance was nothin short of amazing.  She is the first girl on a U.S. team to play in the Little League World Series since Meghan Sims of Owensboro, Kentucky in 2004.  She is also one of 18 in history, on any World Series team when she took the mound on Friday and the first to pitch a shutout!  The 13-year-old pitched her Dragons into the Little League World Series Sunday night, after throwing a three-hit shutout in her squad’s 8-0 win!

Most of her opponents are usually worried about the same thing, her 70-mile-an-hour fastball, not to mention her knee-buckling curveball.  She's no slouch at the plate, either.  Standing 5-foot-4 and 105 pounds, Mo'ne Davis had 17 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings during the regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut.  Of course she's not the only stand-out on the team.  Other Taney Dragons ballers include; shortstop Jared Sprague-Lott, second baseman Jahli Hendricks, catcher Scott Bandura, third baseman Jack Rice, and outfielder Zion Spearman.
Mo'ne Davis started playing softball, but didn't like it and switched to baseball when she was 7 years old. She's also a standout in basketball, with aspirations to play for the University of Connecticut women's team one day.  For now, it's all about baseball and tomorrow (Sunday August 17th), she's hoping to continue her historic pitching streak and help her team win the Little League World Series.

There are 16 teams left, eight regional champions from the U.S. and eight international teams.  U.S. teams will only play one another until the championship game.  All 16 will play in a round-robin until every team has been eliminated with two losses.

Two teams will be left standing, one from both the U.S. and international brackets.  These two teams will square off for the championship game.  As of today, the Little League bracket doesn't show a time for the Taney Dragons' next game.  However to keep an eye on the continued updates on the brackets and schedules, click here.
