After releasing a rollicking cover called "What If" last week, Prince took the stage for the first stop of his Hit and Run tour at the Louisville Palace in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday night (March 14).

In an attempt to keep things interesting, the singer and multi-instrumentalist decided to announce tour stops and dates only days before the performance takes place. He chose the southern locale as the first stop in honor of Hanna Welton, a drummer in his all-girl band, 3rdEyeGirl.

Before beginning the show, Welton addressed her hometown crowd, promising "the best show you've ever seen," much to the excitement of nearly 3,000 attendees in the audience. Prince then appeared, clad in an all-black outfit and increased the expectation of the concert-goers even more, coyly stating, "Kentucky, let me tell you how this is gonna go. Have you ever heard nine hits in a row?" before launching into a performance that sounds enticing even on paper.

The legend then proceeded to reach into his grab bag of hits, according to Rolling Stone, performing fan favorites such as "Little Red Corvette," "When Doves Cry," "Sign o' the Times," "Darling Nicki" and "1999." The show included two separate performances -- both including encores -- with slightly different sets, but he offered equal amounts of energy and greatness that we've come to expect from one of the greatest showmen to ever do it.
