What type of world do we live in where the United States has elected its first Black President, for two terms. And ignorance of racism stills rings loud and clear. According to KFVS -TV once Tyrus Byrd was sworn in as Mayor of Parma, Missouri, several officials and most of the Police force resigned.

Can you imagine how this makes us look as a people and more then that how it made her feel being at the center of a decision like this. Apparently some of the officers resigned because they feared for their safety, as if there would be some type of outroar in the city, while other officials in the city quit with no explanation given.

It truly hurts my heart when I see something like this, because as a child coming up I didn't see color at all, while some may argue that this has nothing to do with race. Whether you feel it directly does or indirectly. I am willing to put money on it that it has everything to do with it. While the town is very small with about 740 people, having the town rally behind her could help with the transformation that she will have to deal with.

I wish that prejudices of all sorts didn't exist. Obviously racism sucks, but any kind of discrimination is just as bad. Let's hope that the city will pull through and hopefully the newly elected mayor will do exactly what she needs to do and will serve out the entire term.
