An Ohio Transplant Looks to Bring Her New Family Home for the First Time — Home for the Holidays Finalist 2
It’s been a long trip for this finalist, an Ohio native who made a new home here in Lake Charles. She’s got a new start on life, and with your vote, she could make it home for Christmas.
Hello and Happy Holidays! My name is J. and I move here to Lake Charles 4 years ago in Sept of 2009. I moved from Ohio, with my ex boyfriend, who had family here. I am 29 years old and back then, it seemed like the right thing to do. The weather was bright and sunny and the economy was a lot better here than up there. It was tough to leave my mom there standing in the road, waving in my rear view.. It has only got harder over the years. I work hard every day at a local restaurant, as a waitress, where I have worked since I got here. I love it there, they are like my second family. Needless to say, the relationship I moved here for, didn’t work out. Just when I saved up enough money to move back home, I met an amazing man! I am happy to say that we have been together for a year now and I hope to marry him someday! He is a divorced father of an amazing little girl that I have grown to deeply love! I struggle every year to make it home for Christmas to see my family. I have just recently moved in with my boyfriend and his daughter. This will be our first Christmas as a family, which is important for the child. I am just torn apart inside not to have my family near as well. It will just be the 3 of us, he doesn’t have any extended family that will come for dinner or anything. I am very thankful to have them in my life! I just heard the ad on the radio and decided to write my story because to me, it would be the absolute best gift in the world to be able to fly my family here to spend the holidays as a complete family in our home! To finally introduce them to my special little family that I’ve acquired here. I could never afford to do that on my own. A lot of people cant wait to grow up, graduate college and move to a sunny place! I couldn’t anyway. Lake Charles ended up being my destination I will never regret my decision, I truly believe this is a perfect little town filled with very nice, welcoming people. They have made me feel very loved and happy to be here. I have grown to be a lot stronger of a person being here alone. The most important thing I have learned through my time here is that family is definitely the most important thing in life and to cherish them because they cannot be replaced in your heart. I miss mine every day and it is very hard to be apart, especially on the holidays! Thank you for your time and I hope you all have a blessed holiday!
