Army Family Looks to Get Dad Home for Christmas to See Infant Daughter — Home for the Holidays Finalist 3
Here’s a family kept apart by military service. Your vote could help him get home to see his daughter’s first birthday.
I’m entering this contest as a last hope. I’m from Grand Lake,LA but my husband, J., is in the Army and is currently stationed in Hohenfels, Germany. He gets time off to visit us about every 6 months but the cost of flying him home is too much for us. We have two beautiful girls together. A. will be 3 in January and A. will be 1 in December. I would love to have my husband home not only for the holidays but for A.’ 1st birthday. We have tried other ways of getting his ticket paid for but because he is a Sgt and is not wounded, he doesn’t qualify. I stay home with our kids so we rely on only his income which is just enough to get us by paying bills in two countries. Of our five years together we have only been able to live together for a 7 month period so we cherish these visits. J. has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. While deployed to Afghanistan he was able to see our first daughter be born, but he had to leave when she was just 3 days old. He returned when she was 9 months old. After A. was born, J. spent 2 weeks home with her. Children grow and change so fast and I hate that he is missing so much of their lives. I don’t want him to miss anymore than he has to. He has never complained, but I can hear the pain in his voice when I tell him we can’t afford his ticket home. It cost over a thousand dollars to fly him home for usually two weeks. This time he will be able to be home from December 13th – January 5, over 3 weeks! I’m praying and hoping that we will be able to get him home for the holidays and A.’ birthday! Thank you!
