KPLC- TV reports 4 high schools in Calcasieu Parish scored an "A" performance grade from the Louisiana Department of Education.  Contributing to the grade, was an increase in graduation rates and ACT scores overall.  Below is a breakdown on the states high school accountability scores:

There were a total of 40 Louisiana high schools to receive an "A", 50 others got a "B", while 38 schools earned a "C", another 30 scored a "D", and some 13 Louisiana schools received an F.

Among the 4 high schools in Calcasieu Parish to earn an "A" are: Barbe, DeRidder, Kinder, and Welsh High.  Schools to a "B" are: DeQuincy, Iowa, Sam Houston, Sulphur, and Vinton High.  Westlake High School received a "C", while LaGrange and Washington High School earned D grades.

While we still have a long way to go, for the most part Louisiana schools have made quite an improvement.  The previous accountability status last year was at 10%, and now it's 23%.

According to KPLC also revealed on Thursday is improvements in students' "end-of-course" test performance and better preparation for post-high-school education.  This is a direct result of more students earning advanced placement credits.

 

KPLC TV reports earning an A is about to get even harder, as the state plans to phase in tougher standards will be phased in over the course of 10 years.
