Business Fire and Family Illness Take Their Toll on Father-in-Law — Home for the Holidays Finalist 1

This finalist is submitting on behalf of her father-in-law, a hard-working man who has fallen on tough luck.  Maybe your vote is what they need to help heal their family for Christmas.

I’m submitting this to get my father-in-law home for the holidays. My husband and I are currently stationed at Fort Polk. My in-laws decided to move to Louisiana to be closer to us. My father in law is one of the best automechanics I know. He opened up a shop in Derrider and last Wednesday his shop caught fire. The gentleman who owns the property is being suspicious with the insurance. One minute he had insurance the next he just let it lapse. So needless to say my father in law is not going to be receiving any money to replace his tools or the vehicles (that weren’t his) that were scorched in the fire.
I’m doing this for F. (father-in-law) because he’s very close to his parents. He’s the only one out of the 7 children to maintain a healthy and active relationship with his parents. Recently his dad was put into the hospital for almost a week due to breathing issues. They released him but he is now on oxygen for possibly the rest of his life. With the fire and F.’s dad going into the hospital I’ve never seen my father in law this upset in life. I’ve been around for 10 years and last Wednesday was the first time I’d ever seen him cry. He’s too proud to admit it but I know he wants to go home to see his mom and dad for Christmas. It’s a family tradition on Christmas Eve for all the kids and grandkids to get together at their house and for F. to miss that for the first time in his life would be devistating to him.
