Lake Charles, La. - In anticipating a "large number of non-emergency calls from the public," Sheriff Tony Mancuso set up a call center on Friday, Aug. 25, at Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office to handle those non-emergency calls during Hurricane Harvey.

Residents of Calcasieu Parish can call 337.491.3846 for non-emergency calls, and the line will be open for 24 hours a day beginning Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at 6:30 a.m., said a media release. It isn't certain to what extent Harvey will affect us in Southwest Louisiana, but it is better to be safe than sorry and prepare for the worst.

“I think it is very important that our citizens get ready now for the imminent flooding we are going to experience,” says Mancuso. “It is a possibility some of us will lose electricity and some of us may even be displaced from their home due to flooding. Go buy your water, non-perishable food, batteries, get medications filled and have plenty of gas in your vehicle. I strongly encourage everyone to prepare for a significant high water event.”
