The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) will be hosting a Clergy/Law Enforcement Partnership Academy, This academy is open to clergy leaders in our parish and seeking participants.  Sheriff Tony Mancuso said the purpose of this event is to improve the relationship between police and the community.

Sheriff Mancuso said he also wanted to improve relations and enhance the ability of residents to be able to address issues within our community. This academy looks to providing local clergy and other faith-based community leaders with practical information of various police operations, practices and objectives.  Once armed with these vital details, they will then map-out ways to work together to reduce and prevent crime throughtout the city.
CPSO deputies as well as officers from the Lake Charles Police Department will give academy participants various lectures and hands-on training.  Together they will educate the participants in criminal investigations, domestic violence, civil rights, gang violence, even school related crimes among other topics in law enforcement.
The academy will have six sessions, and take place every Monday night beginning Monday, July 6, at 6:00 p.m.  The special CPSO Training Academy is located at 3958 Mallard Cove Dr. in Lake Charles.  Members of the clergy or faith-based community leaders are encouraged to attend this academy.  For more info or to reserve your seat, contact Chaplain Bart Leger at (337) 491-6620 or bleger@cpso.com.
At the conclusion of the academy, the goals are to:
-Strengthen partnership between law enforcement and the local community.
-Further the community’s role as a leader in crime reduction.
-Identify and address social issues that diminish the quality of life in the community.
-Link those in need to services and resources that currently exist in the community.
-Gain a better understanding of law enforcement work.
-Inform law enforcement leaders of citizens concerns.
-Ministers and community leaders will be able to share this information to constituents and congregations.
