Santa Rosa, California Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a 13-year-old boy, Andy Lopez, who was holding a replica gun that resembled an AK-47.

Two deputies saw the boy walking with what appeared to be a high-powered weapon. After repeatedly telling him to drop what turned out to be a pellet gun, the boy was shot. Deputies learned after the shooting that it wasn't an actual firearm. The 'toy gun' that the teen was carrying actually belonged to a friend. According to police the boy raised the gun in their direction.

A plastic handgun was also found in the the teenager's waistband. The unidentified deputies have been placed on administrative leave.

Andy's father, Rodrigo Lopez, was reported as saying, he last saw his son Tuesday morning, and said the toy gun belonged to a friend of his son's.

"I told him what I tell him every day," he said in Spanish. "Behave yourself."
