Citgo donates $5,000 to the City of Lake Charles Wastewater Division at 1132 W. 18th Street, for the purpose of mercury collection. It coincides with the work of the Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful - Team Green initiative. They have contributed more than $25,000 in support of the mercury disposal site since it opened in 2007.

The mercury disposal site accepts fever thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, thermostats, and more.  More than 350 lbs. of liquid mercury have been collected since 2007, as well as 3,000 bulbs - including compact, neon and U-tube linears. The facility has also received 400 mercury devices and 54,000 linear feet of fluorescent lamps, according to a press release from Matt Young with the City of Lake Charles.

Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful—Team Green is a Mayor’s Commission whose mission is to develop and sponsor projects which will enhance the appearance and quality of the environment of Southwest Louisiana. The group is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Louisiana Beautiful.

The site is open for mercy collection every Friday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
