A few months ago I was scrolling online and came across this song that had a familiar sound to it. I realized that it was a classic from Maze and Frankie Beverly. The song was called California and it sampled "We Are One", although I am a true fan of Maze, that is by far one of my favorite songs out there. I was also taken back as the last person to use a Frankie Beverly and Maze sample was Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock and we all know how that went down.

The beat featured Memphis rapper Young Dolph at the time and he was known for having the hot radio song "Preach". There was also a singer on the hooked who killed it. I found out that was Ricco Barrino, who is a brother of singer Fantasia. The lead guy was not even from California, but from North Carolina, but he killed the track. After the song started catching on some steam, the higher up's recommended that he add T.I. to the track and the rest is history.

Check out the video shows another side of California, besides the gritty gangster side that so many know it for.
