Lake Charles and surrounding residents will have two good reasons to come to the Lakefront Saturday, May 16, 2015.  Kicking off in the morning at 8:30 a.m. you and your family can come out and “Walk With Your Mayor.”  This is a free event and it all begins from the Lakefront Promenade, across from Millennium Park, as part of the Partnership for a Healthier Southwest Louisiana’s City Challenge.

The actual walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the end of the Promenade, continue north to the PPG Fountain, and back.  This is a chance for you to get out of the house, start a walking regiment for a healthier you, an opportunity to meet Mayor Randy Roach and enjoy the wonderful renovations along the seawall.  Another reason to turn out, is the city with the largest participation will be awarded with a traveling prize.   If you would like to help our city win, but can't attend, just fill out the online pledge here http://healthierswla.com/dare-to-be-healthy/city-challenge-start-walking-calcasieu/.
Then starting 10 a.m., the City’s Recreation and Parks Department will host a “Kids to Parks Day” at Millennium Park.  As part of the National Park Trust’s initiative which was put together to fight childhood obesity, while reminding people to discover and frequent American parks with their children through play.
