Jimmy Fallon is doing his part in keeping hip-hop very much alive, as he puts Common and Black Thought’s freestyle skills on front street.

On "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” we know him as Tariq, but before The Roots became the house band for the show, we knew him as Black Thought. The brother is still lyrically on top of his game. With Common dropping by the show, Fallon had them go up against each other in a freestyle rap battle. They picked three random words, and they had to use them in the freestyle.  Let’s just say they’re both still very well versed in the art of freestyling.

I can always count on Fallon to do something cool and out of the ordinary on his show. He’s certainly serving the newer generation with quality entertainment that we’ll continue to enjoy years down the line, and a lot of it involves hip-hop. After all, when your house band is The Roots, do you have a choice not to be the cool show?
