Cameras were rolling as an officer was seen struggling with a man in the French Quarter over the weekend.

The struggle resulted in one single gunshot being fired just before 11 p.m. Saturday night (5/27) on St. Louis Street between Chartres and Royal streets.

Louisiana State Trooper spokeswoman Melissa Matey confirmed that a state Supreme Court officer was involved in an altercation and police arrested a Texas man by the name of Daniel Mathena on charges of battery of a police officer and resisting arrest by violence or force.

Matey says additional charges are pending as Mathena is stable and recovering in a New Orleans Hospital. The officer involved has not been named but was also wounded during the altercation and has since been treated and released from the hospital.

NOLA.com reports that witnesses said Mathena looked "belligerent" and was "shouting and banging on cars" before "engaging with the officer."
