UPDATE: CPSO Deputy Involved In Shooting In Lake Charles On Tuesday Night


UPDATE: July 23rd, 9:13 p.m. — According to authorities with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, the 33-year-old Sulphur woman who was shot on Tuesday night (July 22nd) by a CPSO deputy when she tried to run over a deputy was shot once, and is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, criminal damage to property, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.

July 22nd, 1:42 a.m. — Authorities said Dargin has a lengthy criminal history, including an arrests on charges of theft and bank fraud in 2004, resisting an officer and operating a vehicle with a suspended license in 2008 and marijuana possession and cruelty to a juvenile in January 2014.

According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday night, a CPSO deputy fired one shot at 33-year-old woman after she struck a patrol unit, and then proceeded to toward the deputy.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. this evening (July 22nd) a deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the corner of Evans and Carr St. in Lake Charles. The driver of the vehicle, Evelyn M. Dargin, 33, stopped and got out of the vehicle but as the deputy was approaching, she fled in her vehicle. The deputy pursued the vehicle and Dargin stopped again, but again fled before the deputy could approach the vehicle. The pursuit ended up in the 300 block of N. Louisiana Ave where Dargin struck a patrol unit then headed toward a deputy who was stopped and outside of his patrol unit ordering the vehicle to stop. Dargin continued to proceed toward the deputy when the deputy fired one shot striking her. — CPSO

Dargin was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder of a police officer; criminal damage to property; resisting arrest; and numerous traffic violations. She was transported to a local hospital, her condition is currently unknown.

An investigation by the Louisiana State Police has been requested by Sheriff Mancuso.
