In a press release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office they’re warning residents to avoid a scam that’s showing up again in Southwest Louisiana.

According to Kim Myers,

Victims report receiving a phone call stating a warrant has been issued for their arrest due to their failure to appear for jury duty. The caller, who claims to be a deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Warrants division, instructs the victim to provide payment over the phone to void the warrant and avoid arrest.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office does not accept payments over the phone, also valid arrest warrants are served in person by law enforcement officials.

If you or anyone you know are victims of this scam, contact CPSO immediately at 491-3605.
