Curren$y dropped his seven-track EP, the Cool and Dre-produced Stoned On Ocean, this week. The project (his seventh release of 2016) features guest spots from Styles P and Wiz Khalifa and is drenched with classic soul samples.

The New Orleans spitter is still living that jet life, stacking it and stashing it and proving he cannot be stopped as “everything is in motion”. In his latest work, Spitta reflects on sticky weed, money, women and candy paint. On Twitter Monday (June 27, he reflected on the feeling he had as he chilled on beach awaiting the release of his new music.

“I once sat on the beach till the sun came up smokin fatties and watchin a cruise ship depart…I was indeed #stonedonocean" he tweeted.

On the hauntingly smooth track titled ‘Anything,’ Curren$y speaks briefly about his silence from the music scene and almost giving up on rap. He reflects on the email he received from an “overseas” Yasiin Bey/Mos Def that encouraged him to keep going.

“Smokin out jet fuel/talkin like pilots/hit the vocal booth and lay down them narcotics/ I was contemplating stoppin/ got an email from Mos Def, he say he’s still watchin”

Spitta’s consistent release of quality music speaks to his work ethic. Paired with his brassy and vivid lyrics, smooth jazz melodies and surprise guest features, Curren$y is proving he can still “push rhymes like weight."
