D’Angelo's debut album, 'Brown Sugar' may have dropped in 1995, but he was setting the stage on fire way before then.  In 1991 at the age of 16, he won ‘Amateur Night at the Apollo' under his original group name Michael Archer and Precise according to the Gothamist.  So, it was clear what his path was from the beginning.   Now I guess you can say, he's paying it forward as TheBoomBox reports, Feb. 7th he'll perform his first U.S. concert were his career began, the Apollo.

Talk about things turning full circle!  Last year he pulled a Beyonce' and dropped his new album 'Black Messiah' and the brotha's been in high demand ever since then.  Pre-sale tickets are available now via the Apollo Theater’s official website and general tickets go on sale this Wednesday (Jan. 21).

Finally anytime you have the likes of Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson in anything, it's gonna be a hit.  Speaking of which, given the enormous ratings their new Lee Daniel’s TV drama Empire racked in, it was clear what had to happen next.  Fox had to make sure they locked the hit TV drama down and it only took them two episodes to make the decision to renew the show for another season.

AlllHipHopNews reports that the initial success of Empire was no fluke.  The series has become the first TV drama this season to grow from week one to week two.  Empire leads all Fox shows in Video On Demand viewing and brought in the biggest series launch for the network since 2012.
