I remember the year was 1990 and I bought this new cassette from this artist with a pretty cool cover and he had a jerri curl. I had never heard of him before, but the cover intrigued me and I decided to drop a few dollars on it and bring it home.

When I first popped it in the deck from the intro. I never took it out. The artist was DJ Quik and this was one of the best things I heard since NWA and Eazy-E. The cd was called Quik Is The Name and featured songs like "Born and Raised in Compton" and "Tonite". We are know that he is a beast as far as rapping and even deejaying, but alot of folks don't realize how deep he is into the music. Check out this exclusive interview with Ali Shaheed from A Tribe Called Quest as he talks dealings with Suge Knight, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre and more.

Now for you new cats, check out some of his classic works from back in the day and you will see why he is one of the best kept secrets out of Compton.
