Dr. Dre released a statement this week through the New York Times where he apologized to the women he has hurt in his past.

“Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life. However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I’ve been married for 19 years and every day I’m working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I’m doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again. I apologize to the women I’ve hurt. I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives.”

Accusations of abuse have publicly come from singer Michel’le, who has said on several occasions that Dr. Dre beat her when they were together. The “Something In My Heart” singer is also the mother of Dre’s oldest son Curtis “Hood Surgeon" Young.

The most publicized incident came when Dre beat former television host Dee Barnes during a record release party in 1991. The former host of hip-hop show Pump It Up has been vocal about Dr. Dre omitting the story from the N.W.A. biopic. Earlier this week it was revealed that the scene involving the beating of Barnes was initially included in "Straight Outta Compton," but due to the editors cut being three hours and thirty minutes, director F. Gary Gray had to drop several scenes to make the film shorter.

"Straight Outta Compton" is still doing major numbers at the box office.
