Dr. Dre fans have been waiting for a new album from the music legend for well over a decade, and they might finally get one later this week. Well, kind of.

According to a radio interview Ice Cube did on The Power & Grind Morning Show from earlier today (July 29), Dre may actually be gearing up to release a new album later this week, nearly 16 years after he dropped his second solo album 2001. But don't get too excited: As great as it would be for Dre to finally deliver Detox to the world, an album that's reportedly been in the works for over ten years now, that's most definitely not what's happening here.

Apparently, Dre's new music will be released in conjunction with the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton, a movie based on legendary hip hop group N.W.A. There’s no word as to whether the album is definitely the movie’s soundtrack or not, but according to MTV Dre is in charge of it, so it’s a likely possibility. Eminem and Kendrick Lamar have both been linked to the soundtrack.

Straight Outta Compton’s director F. Gary Gray said about the movie, “It’s really Dre and how he’s evolved and how he’s matured, as not only a person, but as an artist. It’s deep and it’s great.”

Ice Cube said the album — whatever it is — will be released on August 1, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled all day Saturday.
