The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office continues there effort to keep citizens in our parish safe with two checkpoints just in time for the holidays. On Wednesday, November 23, and Saturday, November 26, there will be a combination DWI and seatbelt checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the parish.

The two checkpoints will target persons driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. These checkpoints have in the past "proven effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired, and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted,” said  CPSO press release.

People who are not wearing their seatbelt are also the target of the latest checkpoints funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
