The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a combination DWI checkpoint and seatbelt checkpoint on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at an undisclosed location in the parish. Deputies will be out looking for persons who may be driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, as well as individuals not wearing their seatbelt.

These checkpoints have in the past "proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired, and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted,” said a CPSO press release.

The latest checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
