The League of Women Voters' Annual Banquet will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Reeves Uptown Catering at 6:00 PM. The League of Women Voters of Lake Charles, a non-partisan, political organization, encourages the participation of citizens to increase understanding of issues through forums, voter registration, the election process, education and advocacy. The organization has been serving the citizens of the Southwest Louisiana area since its inception in 1947.

In making the announcement, Molly Morgan, President of the League of Women Voters - Lake Charles, said, "The national League of Women Voters was founded February 14, 1920 out of the women's suffrage movement. It was a "mighty political experiment" to educate 20 million women on their new found freedom to cast an informed vote. Educating the voter is still the backbone of the League.

"For our banquet this year, we have invited local representatives from several political parties to speak about the core values of each party to help us better understand what each party believes. Those who have accepted are: Mike McHale, Democratic Party; Guy McLendon, Libertarian Party; and Tore Carlberg, Republican Party. While, we would have been delighted to have additional speakers, this should be an educational evening."

The League welcomes both men and women as members of the organization. For ticket information or to RSVP, please call the League at 337-474-1864 or 337-474-8158. Tickets are $30 for members and $35 for non-members.
