In 2014 we've said goodbye to iconic Hollywood legends and young celebrities gone way before their time.  107 Jamz pays tribute to the following famous faces;

The acclaimed author, renowned poet and gifted actor died at age 86 on May 28. The Phenomenal Women writer pulled out of several events prior to her death due to health-related issues. Following her death, Guy Johnson wrote of his mother, "Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension."  Maya Angelou holds three Grammy's, more than 50 honorary degrees, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

They made a movie about his amazing life story.  Denzel Washington starred as the middleweight title contender, who was unjustly convicted of murder.  His convictions became an international symbol of racial injustice and even inspired a Bob Dylan song. The Hurricane suffered from prostate cancer and died April 20th in his sleep at his home in Toronto.

At the of 32, the MTV Challenge star died on Nov. 14, after losing a long and brave battle with cancer.  She had overcome the disease in 2006 and again, in 2012.  Sadly the reality star was diagnosed with cancer for a third time in the summer of 2014.  Even though she put up a fierce fight to survive, she lost the battle.  She fought all the way to the end and in one of her final tweets, she wrote: "Whatever option I have to LIVE I'm grabbing! …No is not an option."

The beloved comedienne passed away on Sept. 4 at the age of 81. The 81-year old celebrated television personality was having a standard throat procedure, when something went tragically wrong. Rivers was rushed to the hospital after complications and never recovered.  Melissa, her daughter said "My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh.  Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

The world stood still when news broke that Robin Williams’ died of an apparent suicide Aug. 11th.  The beloved entertainer was 63.  His wife, Susan Schneider, confirmed the shocking news and said in a statement: "I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy."

MLB Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn, died on June 16th.  He is one of the greatest athletes the world has seen and definitely in San Diego's history.  After years of chewing tobacco, the Major Leaguer formed oral cancer.  He was 54.

Hoffman's family released a statement after the Oscar winners untimely death saying,  "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone."  The talented actor was found dead in his NYC apartment on Feb. 2nd, after an overdose on heroin in his bathroom. The father of three had an on-going struggle with addiction, his last rehab stint was in May 2013.

On Sept. 5, the young G.R.L. singer and X Factor finalist took her own life in her West Hollywood apartment, she 25.  Her death shocked fans and devastated her group.  in her West Hollywood apartment. The girl group’s official Twitter handle later tweeted, “Words cannot express the depth of our loss. Simone’s incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart. We will carry her memory with us in everything we do.”

In one of the most tragic deaths in 2014, the 30-year old dancer/actress and star of VH1's 'Hit The Floor' was found dead in her apartment along with her 34-year old husband, rapper Earl Hayes on Dec. 8.  Authorities determined her husband killed her and then himself after a jealous rage.  Apparently he could never get over her past relationship with singer Trey Songz.

Legendary soul singer Bobby Womack's career spanned seven decades.  His iconic hits  "If You Think You're Lonely Now,"  "Harry Hippie."  Womack died at his home in Tarzana, California at the age of 70 on June 27.

The legendary stage and screen actress from Hollywood’s Golden Age died at age 89 on Aug. 12. She was married to the one and only Humphrey Bogart and was left to raise thier two children after his tragic death in 1957.

Known for giving the world a look into the black experience, Amiri Baraka, was a notable poet and playwright of pulsating rage.  The poet reportedly died on January 9 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, after being hospitalized in the for one month. Later reports indicated that he died from complications after a recent surgery. He was 79.

She had several memorable roles from being a main fixture on Saturday Night Live to starring Designing Women and 3rd Rock from the Sun.  The actress died on Oct. 9 at the age of 57 after battling a serious illness. She was remembered on the NBC sketch comedy show later that week when they played a tribute clip.

Gone to soon, the American Idol season 7 alum passed away on Oct. 18 after suffering from a rare case of endometrial cancer.  She was only 32.  Her family posted the very sad news on her official Facebook page, writing, “To God be the glory! With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne.”

Juanita Moore, the Oscar-nominated star of Imitation of Life, played the dark-skinned mother of Lana Turner in the 1959 race drama.  She died at the age of 99 at home do to natural causes.

The world's most iconic child star of all time died at the age of 85 on Feb. 10.   She was at her home in Woodside, California, surrounded by family and caregivers when she passed away of  chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

One of the oldest child stars still in the business, Mickey Rooney, died in his sleep at home at the age of 93 on April 6 after a long undisclosed illness.ill for a long time. "He had exceptional care and a new lease on life," Rooney's family said in a statement.

British actor Bob Hoskins died at age 71 on April 29. The actor, best known for his role in the animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, actor Bob Hoskins was a Golden Globe winner with a career that spanned more than 30 years. He appeared Hook alongside the late Robin Williams and countless others.  After being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2011, he retired.  He died from pneumonia at a hospital in London at age 71, 6 months before his 72nd birthday.

A member of the legendary rap group Sugarhill Gang founder 'Big Bank Hank' died at age 57 from kidney complications due to cancer. The rapper was a founding member or Sugarhill Gang, which produced the first mainstream rap hit Rapper's Delight in 1979.

Forever known for her role as the happy-go-lucky made Alice from the TV show, The Brady Bunch, Davis died at age 88 in early June. Prior to her death she was in excellent health. Reportedly while living in San Antonio, Texas, she had sustained a subdural hematoma from a fall in her bathroom.

Legendary screen and stage actress Ruby Dee passed away at age 91 on June 11.Her most memorable film roles include Ruth Younger in 1961’s A Raisin in the Sun, Mother Sister in 1989’s Do the Right Thing, and Mama Lucas in 2007’s American Gangster.  Her career earned her an Emmy, Grammy and SAG Award. She was also a central figure in the Civil Rights Movement, and was close friends with both Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.

Radio legend Casey Kasem passed away on June 15 at the age of 82. His health issues became a major issue between his family, as they had public disputes over over how he should be treated. His daughter Kerri Kasem said her dad was suffering from Parkinson's disease.  After his death she posted the news on Facebook, writing, "Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers."

The Muppets puppeteer and son of creator Jim Henson died suddenly of a heart attack on Feb. 14 at age 48. His famous father also died young, passing away in 1990 at the age of 53 after suffering from an abscesses in his lungs.

One of Motown Records' most memorable voices is gone.  Jimmy Ruffin, was the eldest brother of David Ruffin of the Temptations.  The soulful balladeer was reportedly very ill and was admitted to a Las Vegas hospital, were he died Nov. 17. He was 78.

The amazingly funny comedian and Tonight Show favorite died at the age of 78 from cancer on March 15. He had a since of humor to the end and asked for one hundred dollars in small bills to be placed in his left sock, "just in case tipping is recommended where I'm going."

The WWE legend, was known to fans as The Ultimate Warrior, and sadly died on April 8 at the age of 54.  His death came just days after he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

An iconic D.C. figure, Marion Barry, was involved in the cities politics good and bad for more than 40 years.  The former mayor died at age 78 after being hospitalized at the United Medical Center for a urinary tract infection.  He died sudenly of cardiac arrest on Nov. 23.
