As flood victims begin the long process of cleaning up and salvaging what they have left, FEMA officials want residents to know they are here to help.  If you or anyone you know has been affected by the current flood disaster, FEMA is encouraging everyone to go apply for assistance now.

Thanks to technology, the application process is rather easy.  Residents can go online and sign-up at disasterassistance.gov, or take the conventional way and call 1-800-621-FEMA.  In addition they are also encouraging flood-affected residents, who don't receive regular SNAP benefits, to pre-register for DSNAP.  Go www.dcfs.louisiana.gov/preregister or call 1-888-LAHELP-U (1-888-524-3578) daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Below is a list of information needed to apply:

*Name
*Social Security Number
*Date of *Date of Birth per household member
*Current parish and address
*Monthly income per household member
*All liquid assets per household member (cash, checking, savings)

Residents who need assistance with recovering a pet from their home or need a emergency shelter for their pets ,are encouraged to contact the Offices of Emergency Preparedness. For contact information, go to gohsep.la.gov/ABOUT/PARISHPA.

The Louisisana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner, Mike Strain, announced yesterday they have rolled out a mobile pet shelter.  Strain said they are helping to evacuate animals and pets of flood victims saying, “It’s so important to co-locate displaced people with their family pets. People are more inclined to evacuate if they know their pets can come with them.” He added, "This is also a lifesaving measure. We have learned from past experience that people will remain in harm’s way before leaving without their pets.”
