Let’s face it, our economy still sucks, which is why so many Americans have more than one job. If you live in Lake Charles where the median per capita income is $26,712 a year, it’s a probable you have some form of a side hustle.

According to a study by Bankrate, 44 million American adults have a second job. No, selling bootleg DVDs doesn’t count.

Eighty-six percent of people working a second job do it each month, and 36% are making $500 or more. I can make that doing one Dj gig. Not bad, eh?

Folks between the ages of 18 and 26 are most likely to hold a side job, and they earn less from that second gig than the elder generation.

I can think of several people I know off hand who have second jobs, some do it weekly, some monthly, and some quarterly. Which is how my dj service has been lately, slow boogie.

If you live in SWLA, maybe selling boo boo tea (flat tummy tea) is your thing. Maybe you sell hair weave on Instagram, cut and mow lawns, or sell pastries. Whatever it is, make sure you put a little bit aside in case of an emergency, or maybe to take that summer vacation with the kids. Just don’t work too hard!

So, what’s your side hustle?
