A former Calcasieu Parish first assistant district attorney got a suspended sentence and probation for pleading guilty Monday to obscenity charges and for giving alcohol to a minor.

Ronnie Rossitto, 63, was most recently working as an assistant district attorney after having retired as the parish’s first assistant DA.  Rossitto left the DA’s office this past July, after the incident in question.

KPLC reports that the incident in question occurred in New Orleans six months ago.  He pled guilty in an Orleans Parish court this week. According to the court’s docket, he was fined $1,000 and sentenced to two years at hard labor — though that jail sentence was suspended.  He will also remain on probation for two years.

It remains unclear at this time whether or not Rossitto’s charges were lessened from more severe charges as part of his plea deal.  Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier told KPLC the incident in question involved a “19 or 20 year old”:

“It was very upsetting to everybody here at the district attorney’s office. Ronnie has been here at this office longer than, I think, anyone else. He’s been here 36 years. And this whole situation is very unfortunate.”

In 2008, Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Rossitto to the state’s Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board.  Rossitto also served at one point as a board member for the Calcasieu Parish Children and Youth Planning Board, though his name no longer appears among its board of directors.
