Future’s Self-Titled Album Goes Platinum

Future just won’t stop winning. Very recently, the Atlanta-based superstar’s self-titled album was certified platinum. According to the RIAA, Future is just one of five albums to go platinum this year, joining Migos’ Culture, Ed Sheeran’s ÷, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. and JAY-Z’s 4:44. Crazy.

This revelation marks just the latest in what’s been a steady stream of amazing accomplishments for Hendrix. This past winter, he became the first artist to ever have back-to-back albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. First, of course, was Future, which moved 140,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Next was HNDRXX, which moved 121,000 equivalent album units in its first seven days out.

Powered by singles like “Draco” and the ubiquitous “Mask Off,” it was always clear Future was going to do huge numbers—which is actually sort of ironic. Shortly before dropping the newly minted platinum record, Future spoke to Zane Lowe about wanting to return to his roots as a less mainstream rapper.

“I just feel like I want to go back to being a more underground [rapper],” Future told Lowe at the time. “Just reconnecting with the fans, just more hands-on, being back with my fans.”

Future is the Atlanta rapper’s second solo album to go platinum after 2015’s DS2. What a Time to Be Alive, his collab project with Drake, is also certified platinum.
