Here are some photos from the old studios , it was great being back where it all started for me! I remember like yesterday as I got me start at WNBN 1290, which when i begin was downtown in the heart of the city. I was fourteen years old at the time and got my start in November of 1987. This was both a fun and a sad time for me as this was my first time ever being on the radio, but my grandmother had just passed before she heard me. This was important to me as she knew how badly I wanted to be on the radio although I still feel like she was looking down on me. The owner was Frank Rackley who had no prior radio experience, but wanted to do some positive in the community and I am so happy that I had the chance to be apart of that. I was young so school was a priority for me, but I made it a point to go there every afternoon after school if I didn’t have any major test and just sit around. It was a gospel station, but there was so much fun and experience that I gained from working there. I worked there for about 3 months doing weekends and some afternoons, before the chance came for me to move to another big station in my home of Meridian. Although I left there, it was always my first home and I could never let anyone discredit where I started and the knowledge that I gained.

While Mr. Rackley recently passed away, new ownership has decided to keep the tradition of being tied to the community front and center with the radio station. I had the chance to visit the new location of the studios which has acquired new equipment since I worked there in 87. I hope you enjoyed my journey and by way of technology I am able to give back to the station by voicing the station every weekday afternoon from 2-6 pm on WNBN AM 1290!

Gabriel Browns Urban Soul Theatre had another successful showing for the Lake Charles Area. I had the pleasure of talking with alot of the cast members on Wednesday and that could not have prepared me for the great show that they held on last night. I would love to give kudos to the entire cast, production crew, director Gabriel Brown and all who came out last night. I couldn’t get alot, but here are some of the many faces who performed last night!

The Vagina Monologues Performance Inside Central School on Thursday April 25th in Lake Charles:

This was a truly great performance and from the men to the ladies, there was laughter, tears and possibly a little anger at some of the stories from the ladies. I am proud to say that I can call Gabriel Brown a friend and never knew when I saw him for the first time in a play that years later, he would be making some serious power moves in the city.Also to those working diligently with Oasis who received proceeds from the event. It was great to see something so positive be done for that organization. Make sure that when you hear or see Gabriel Browns Urban Soul Theatre, try to make it your priority to get out and support it. Props again to everyone who came out last night and if you missed it, you missed a treat!

The ladies were great and we have a good time, you should have heard the conversations behind the scene. If you have no plans tonight, then you should definately be in the buiding tonight at Central School Theatre 809 Kirby Street in Lake Charles for the premier of The Vagina Monologues. The event kicks off at 7:30 pm and it will be plenty of fun. There are still tickets available and you can also pay at the door. Don’t forget proceeds from this event go toward Oasis of Lake Charles who fights for victims of domestic and sexual violence. You must be 18 years of age or older to attend, so make sure you are in the house tonight! Shouts out to Gabriel A Brown and The Urban Soul Theatre for bringing quality entertainment to the area!

Also a great big congratulations to the four contestants who are going to New Orleans this Sunday to audition with the X-Factor producers. I am sure it will be alot of fun and good luck to all of those who are going. Philip A. Guillory, known to us as the infamous Go DJ Big Boy Chill, has been holding down nights here for over eight years and has been consistently number one in that time slot. Also Big Boy Chill is the CEO of Masked Mad Men Entertainment, an artist and a producer as a mobile DJ who can turn your party out. Now that you know a little bit about Mr. Big Benjamin Chaser, here are 10 Things That you didn’t know!

1. ) Big Boy Chill is the second child of four children — one older brother, one younger brother and sister. He has five nephews, and a niece or nephew on the way. Unfortunately he has no kids, yet.

2.) Chill’s dad was a musician in a local band that traveled the country called “Superior Elevation.” (See at right) They were managed by the late Rockin’ Sidney. He DJ’d off and on for family, which is how he got into the business.

3.)  Big Boy Chill underwent open heart surgery at 4 years old.  He had a ‘Coarctation of the Aortic valve’, which is basically a narrowing of the valve that pumps blood to your body from the heart. He got routine check-ups, and thank God  he has had no issues since the surgery. Chill does his regular regimen of exercises, and makes sure watch what he eats more than others. To this day, according to Chill, he still has the scar on his back where they went in.

4.)  In the 1st grade Chill was attacked  by a dog — his dog. He bit his left wrist that he still has a scar to this day from the severe open wound. Big Boy Chill received four stitches. The Pup missed the main artery in his wrist, which could have been fatal had he bitten him in deeper.

5.) Chill’s most embarrassing moment was when he vomited in class on his first day of junior high. Embarrassed isn’t the word for how he felt.

6.) Big Boy Chill is a proud high school graduate of Lake Charles Boston High School, and he then obtained his Bachelors of Science degree from McNeese State University in Mass Communication with a concentration in Television & Radio.

7.) As I stated earlier he is not only a Dj but also a song writer and has even managed several individual artists since he’s been in radio.

8.) Big Boy Chill says that if he wasn’t in the entertainment business, he’d probably be a chef, because he loves to cook. Hey Ladies we got a live one here for you… LOL!

9.) He founded Masked Mad Men Entertainment in March of 2004. It’s a record label, multiple production company, and it’s where he runs his mobile DJ service as well.

10.) Now here is a little fun tip that you may want to know. Big Boy Chill is not really a big fan of  ice cream. Although he may eat some once a year, it’s usually through an odd craving if he does have it.

PRESS RELEASE FROM LAKE CHARLES POLICE DEPARTMENT:

On Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 7:45 p.m., the Lake Charles Police Department responded to a shots fired call at 2027 Highway 171.  As the victim exited the business, the suspect vehicle (2001 Buick Century) attempted to park in the same parking spot that the victim was walking through.  Words were exchanged between the vehicle occupants and the victim.  The victim then entered his vehicle that had two additional occupants.  As the victim’s exited the parking lot and entered U.S. Highway 171, the suspect’s vehicle followed the victim’s onto Hwy 171.  As the suspects were exiting the parking lot, the passenger, later identified as 18-year old Armonta Dquon Hadnot, rolled down the passenger window and was shooting at the victim’s vehicle numerous times while sitting on the window seal.

On Thursday, March 21, 2013 at approximately 11:45 a.m., detectives made contact with Lon Allen Porter, driver of the suspect vehicle which was involved in the shots fired incident at 2027 Highway 171. Mr. Porter was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Mr. Porter was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Facility on these charges.

Two hours and twenty five minutes later, the armed suspect from the previous shots fired incident (18-year old Armonta Dquon Hadnot) and a second unknown assailant ordered numerous individuals to the ground at gun point in McMillan Park (343 Goos Boulevard). During this altercation, three individuals were shot and killed.

The Lake Charles Police Department is currently looking for Armonta Dquon Hadnot as a person of interest in the three murders and as a suspect in the aggravated assault on Highway 171.

Hadnot could possible be driving a 2001 Buick Century, dark green, with dark tinted windows – Texas license plate BK6J808. The Buick Century has a hood ornament of an angel with orange wings swept back toward the windshield.

Hadnot is also wanted on criminal charges from a shooting that occurred in September 2012. The 2012 charges are Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

Hadnot and occupants of this vehicle should be considered armed and dangerous. If the vehicle is located, contact your local law enforcement agency.

Victims were identified as 20-year old Jeminskian J. Arvie, 23-year old David Jermaine Galmore, and 20-year old Fitzgerald Tremayne Guillory – all of Lake Charles, LA.

If you have any information concerning this homicide, contact Sgt. Franklin Fondel, Sgt. Lecia McCullough or Detective Colby Thompson at 337-491-1311. Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest 337-439-2222.

In the early 90′s, Dallas pretty much ruled the NFC, and for a few seasons, the NFL. I have been a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan as long as I can remember. Now, with that being said, I still like the Saints. As a Cowboy fan, the only time I root against New Orleans is when they play against Dallas and when I need the Saints to lose so the Cowboys can improve their playoff chances. And honestly, that’s the way it should be. If your team will be helped by another team losing, you better hope they lose. Now of course lately, there haven’t been too many years when Dallas is close to a playoff run, but I am with them anyway.

Now, here’s where it gets fun. Being a Dallas Cowboy fan in Louisiana is not easy. With New Orleans being only 2 1/2 – 3 hours away, most people in the area are Saints fans. But where’s the love for one of the only NFL teams with 5 Super Bowl rings? I know, I know. “Y’all haven’t won a Super Bowl since the 90′s.” But when the Saints go 10+ years without winning another Super Bowl, I don’t want to hear anything. Who Dat Nation can’t say anything about just having 1. I’m going to paraphrase a comment I saw a while back on FaceBook about whether Dallas is still “America’s Team”. Here goes: “If you wonder if Dallas is still America’s Team, ask the analysts. People can’t seem to keep them out of their mouths. Hate em or love em, people buy tickets, show up, and tune in to watch Dallas every week.” That’s pretty well said, even though I had to use proper grammar instead of the FB grammar that was originally used.

During my research for this blog, my past 29 years of life, I have a few interesting things. Alot of Saints fans now actually used to like/love the Dallas Cowboys. Most of them jumped ship when Jerry Jones took over. Now, even thought he has more money than P. Diddy, Jay-Z, and Donald Trump combined, (that might not be an accurate statement, I haven’t checked the figures), the biggest mistake I heard most ex Dallas Cowboy fans say is when he fired Tom Landry. As a die hard fan, I don’t like the fact that Jerry is the Owner, CEO, GM, 3rd string QB, and offensive/defensive coordinator all in one. (By the way, those last two might not be accurate either.)

All that being said, I just want all of Who Dat Nation to understand 1 thing: Dallas Cowboys was and still is America’s Team. Enjoy the Gallery. And I hope you see the theme.
