Today in Tha Wire, we've reached a pivotal moment in America.  Social media is the new star showing the good, bad, and ugly in all of us.  We have some real problems to address in this country.   The recent police involved shootings and murders are proof of that fact. When tragedy occurs some of us turn violent, try to incite violence or stir up confusion. While others use the blame game accusing everyone and everything for the reason why we all can't get along.

The truth is race is still a problem for us in America, the laws are not equal for everyone and this needs to change, but it's also true that we all could use some self reflection and character reorganization if we ever hope to change things.  Yes...there are some trigger happy cops out there, but I think everyone could agree there's far more "Good Guys" in uniform than bad.  The outcry for justice is not against them, rather for the few "bad apples" among them.

Speaking of good cops, rapper/actor Game and his son Harlem are helping a police officer in Arkansas trying to make a difference.  Officer Tommy Norman is working to improve relations between his department and the community he serves in Little Rock.  He's making a lot of headway, using social media.  His Facebook page says it all, “I’m a police officer in NLR Arkansas who’s committed to changing the world!”

According to reports Officer Norman’s call for positive community policing is working and recently got the attention of the Compton MC.  Game said it was his sons idea to start a GoFundMe page to help Officer Norman who actually loads his police car with food and goodies for the kids in the neighborhoods he serves.

Game said, “I had conversations with my oldest son [Harlem] about good cops and bad ones and he did his research and found officer [Norman’s] page,” Game took to his Instagram page and told his followers. “I was touched by how active he is in the black community where he polices.”

Officer Norman isn't that unique. Thousands of officers and police departments around the nation are making changes within to ensure positive connections with the citizens of the communities they serve, including here in Lake Charles. We got a long way to go, but change doesn't happen over night. Shouts-out to all the officers out there trying to make a difference. Your efforts are appreciated.
