The Remote Area Medical (RAM) will be providing free high-quality dental, vision, and medical care in Lake Charles on Saturday, September 15, and Sunday, September 16, 2018, at the Lake Charles Civic Center, 900 North Lakeshore Drive.

RAM is a "non-profit provider of mobile medical clinics delivering free, high-quality, dental, vision and medical care to underserved and uninsured individuals", said a media release.

Individuals will have access to dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental x-rays, eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses made on-site, women's health exams, and general medical exams. All services are reportedly free and require no identification.

“Access to quality healthcare is essential if we are to truly battle the root causes of poverty within a community,” said Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter. “We believe that this event will have lasting effects throughout our community. It truly is a Herculean effort to put this event on. We hope to connect our residents in need to health services and care that may be available to them year-round.”

You might be asking, how do you get signed up? According to the media release, "there will be a ticket distribution on September 15, beginning at 3 a.m. in the Lake Charles Civic Center south parking lot. Patients will enter the parking lot via the entrance closest to the lakefront. The clinic parking lot will open at 12 a.m. midnight on Saturday, September 15. Ticket distribution begins at 3 a.m., and patients will be seen in chronological order according to their ticket number when clinic doors open at 6 a.m. This process will repeat on Sunday, September 16."

“We’re calling this event Operation Healing and Restoration, and it could serve thousands depending on the volunteers,” said Emily Ashworth, RN, BSN and the city’s wellness nurse coordinator. “There is such a great need in our area for medical care, and we are glad to be a part of the solution.”

Anyone who would like to volunteer can register at ramusa.org. Step-by-step instructions are also available at CityofLakeCharles.com. Also, contact Emily Ashworth at 337.491.1378, or email emily.ashworth@cityoflc.us.
