A Lake Charles man is behind bars after a high-speed pursuit on Monday, October 17 that ended with a ton of charges, including DWI, and drugs.

After 5 p.m., a BMW passing vehicles on the shoulder of I-10 Westbound near US Highway 171 in Calcasieu Parish was spotted by a trooper with Louisiana State Police Troop D, said a media release. The driver, 26-year-old Blake Aaron Mouton Smith, ignored the trooper's attempts to stop him. He exited I-10 and traveled city streets in an attempt to elude the trooper, before taking his antics to I-210.

A tire deflation device was successfully deployed to puncture the tires of the vehicle. Smith exited I-210 to Enterprise Blvd, where he then fled on foot and was apprehended shortly thereafter.

Smith was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (second offense), possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of pharmaceuticals without a prescription, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container, passing on the shoulder, driving under suspension, and expired vehicle license plate. Smith was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

The Louisiana State Police Troop D reportedly received assistance from the Lake Charles Police Department during the pursuit.
