20 Hip-Hop Albums That Are Unusually Long

Some of the biggest albums in rap history are just as bloated as their legacies, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. But then again, when it comes to at least a few of them—or, more precisely, 20—we would.

Some fans may think 2Pac‘s All Eyez on Me, in all of its brazen, unrelentingly thuggish glory, could do without “Skandalous,” and the numerous Outlaw-littered filler tracks where ‘Pac only has one verse. On a less technical level, OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is brilliantly dynamic, but 39 songs combined is just a lot to sit through, no matter where you are.

Recently, Future dropped two of his longest albums to date, and he did so in consecutive weeks. A perfectionist trap conductor, Future’s HNDRXX and the eponymous Future weigh-in at a hearty, but not overstuffed 17 tracks each, sitting on a fairly thick fence between “just right” and “wait, there’s more?” But if the DS2 rapper had included a few more skits or a needless “Draco” remix, things might have been different.

XXL takes a look back at 20 rap albums that went on for a good bit too long. Whether it’s a classic weighed down by too many purposeless skits, or a good album that could’ve been great if an artist had trimmed down redundant songs, we’ve got it covered in the gallery above.
