A traffic stop conducted by the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) turned up over $3,000,000 worth of cocaine.

According to a media release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday, November 14, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers with the C.A.T. Team stopped a 2017 pickup truck for a traffic violation as it was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 14. The driver, Stephane Baril, of Quebec, Canada was issued a notice of violation for the traffic violation, but during the stop, officers noticed Baril was "overly nervous and acting in a suspicious manner."

Officers requested permission to conduct a search of the truck, which Baril granted after signing a written consent allowing the search. The search reportedly turned up "approximately eighty (80) large bundles of compressed powder cocaine totaling 219.5 pounds, with an estimated street value of over $3,000,000." The cocaine was concealed in "multiple" luggage bags in the bed of the truck.

Baril was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center, and charged with possession of CDS II (Cocaine) over 400 grams.

Judge Clayton Davis has set Baril's bond at $1,000,000.
