For over 30 years, Janet Jackson has been one of music’s most iconic superstars, so it’s very fitting that the 2018 Billboard Music Awards will honor her with one of the show's most prestigious award.

Janet (Ms. Jackson, if you’re nasty) will receive the Icon Award at this year’s event, which will air live from MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on May 20 at 8 PM ET.

In addition to this honor, Ms. Jackson, herself, will also perform on the telecast, her first televised performance in nine years. The 51-year-old mother joins a list of previous Icon honorees that include Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez, Prince, Celine Dion and other musicians.

This is news comes as Jackson is set to embark on a tour of summer festivals. She will headline New York's Panorama Festival, Essence Fest in New Orleans and the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco.

Unfortunately, her headlining gig at the 2018 FYF Fest has been canceled due to poor ticket sales.

Congratulations to Janet Jackson on her Billboard Icon Award. You are still in control.
