JAY-Z’s ‘4:44′ Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart

JAY-Z's 4:44 will remain in the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart for the second week.

The album, which dropped on June 30, is Jay's 14th no. 1 album. The success of 4:44 is significant, as Jay broke his own previously held record of the most number one albums from a solo artist in Billboard 200's 61 year history.

According to Nielson Music, 4:44 moved 87,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 20. Billboard reports Jay now has a cumulative total of 25 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The only rap act with more weeks at No. 1 in the 61-year history of the chart is Eminem, with 31 total weeks at the top of the list, so it's feasible that with the success of 4:44, Jay can break that record as well.

Jay isn't the only hip-hop act having success on the Billboard 200. In fact, the top five slots are all hip-hop artists—Kendrick Lamar is at no. 2 with DAMN., no doubt spawned by his high-energy summer tour, French Montana is at no. 3, while DJ Khaled holds down the no. 4 spot and 21 Savage is in the no. 5 spot.

While Jay is certainly having success on the Billboard Charts, he's reportedly losing $1 million per week by keeping his music off of Spotify, as he continues to engage in a back-and-forth between the streaming giant and his own platform, Tidal. Undoubtedly, it's a strategic move on his part, and we'll have to see how it all plays out.
