Today in Tha Wire Kanye West got just what he wanted yesterday...immortality.  Well sort of.  The rap superstar was immortalized on an L.A. street corner as a freestanding piece of art, in the form of a Jesus inspired sculpture.  Before you rush to judgement, the gold statue was created by a Hollywood artist, ironically known as Plastic Jesus.  The West Coast artist has been producing wild art pieces, that are scattered across Hollywood's main streets since 2015.

Playing on Kanye's Yeezus term, the famous California artist settled on a name for his latest work of art..."False Idols."  The Hip Hop inspired work features a life-size gold statue of Kanye West, posed as if being crucified, nailed to a gold cross, with nails in his hands, wearing a lioncloth, with a crown of thorns and a little bit of bling around his neck for some extra effect. It's pretty shocking, but I think that's the whole idea.  Though some will be offended upon seeing the statue, I got a feeling more will get-it.

The concept is actually quite genius. It's a beautiful reminder to us all, not to place other human beings on the same pedestal as the Son of Man... Jesus Christ.

Peep a few pics of the statue in the making and the finished product below!

It is truly a sight to see, that's for sure.  According to reports Plastic Jesus unveiled his new street art yesterday(February 22), at it's forever home, on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Ave.   As previously reported the California artist has put out some really crazy art.  For example in 2015 he made a life-size Oscar trophy and had it snorting cocaine on all fours!  He did another highly controversial piece of graffiti, using the image of Olympic star Lance Armstrong, cycling with an IV bag!

To say this guy's art if over-the-top, is an understatement!  This dude is way over-the-top.  So why did he choose to use Kanye for his inspiration on his latest piece of work?  He told the Hollywood Reporter,

“He’s a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him,” he continued. “We’ve seen it before with people like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. The same people who put him into a God-like place are the same yapping at his heels for a piece of flesh when something happens.”

I love it!  It's so true too.  Well next time you're in Cali, head over to Hollywood Boulevard and feast your eyes on the city's newest attraction.  That's the scoop for now.  Remember for all things entertainment tune into Tha Wire every weekday exclusively on The People's Station 107 Jamz.
