Hip-hop giants know how to maintain a presence in music—even between album cycles. Viewers of the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards were reminded of that when Kendrick Lamar was awarded yet another prestigious accolade.

Though he wasn't in attendance, the Compton MC was honored with Lyricist of the Year award at the ceremony, which took place on Oct. 6 in Miami and was aired tonight (Oct. 16) on BET. This makes it the sixth consecutive year that he's been given the high regard. The last person to be awarded the honor was Lil Wayne in 2011.

Speaking of Weezy, the Carter V rapper gave a moving speech at tonight's ceremony when he took the stage to accept the well-deserved I Am Hip Hop Award.

Congrats, Kendrick!
