Kendrick Lamar took home the biggest award of the night at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. Kung Fu Kenny kicked off the show with a fiery medley performance, and he closed his night winning Video of the Year for the acclaimed visuals for his hit single "HUMBLE."

Sunday night (Aug. 27), Kendrick had already taken the Moonperson for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Cinematography.

Dave Meyers directed the "HUMBLE." video alongside TDE President Dave Free and Kendrick. The video became one of the most talked-about of the year. Kendrick beat Bruno Mars (“24K Magic”), Alessia Cara (“Scars To Your Beautiful”), DJ Khaled (“Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller) and The Weeknd (“Reminder”) for the VMAs top honor this year.

Kendrick took the stage with Meyers and Free, thanking his collaborators.

“Thank you for allowing us to take our thoughts and our wild imagination to the next level," he told Meyers. "This guy always been a genius. True pleasure--for real."

Free urged the artists in attendance to appreciate that they have a platform to motivate others.

"I just want to say one thing, real short and sweet, we've got an opportunity inspire the youth because we were inspired," Free shared. "Take time and give back to the youth."

"Music unites us, music crosses borders and it takes tremendous artistry to stand out and be non-comformist," Meyers added. "And Kendrick, you are the mountaintop of that."
