Today (Sept. 24), Kevin Gates' new interview with Zane Lowe was released on Apple Music Beats 1 Radio. In preparation of his first post-prison mixtape, Luca Brasi 3, the Louisiana native shares how people who battle with inner demons, like himself, listen to his music as a form of therapy.

"I know I’m supposed to be talking about Luca Brasi 3, but this has everything to do with Luca Brasi 3, what I'm about to say," the "Vouch" rapper begins. "It’s so many people that come to me and tell me 'Hey, your music has helped me.' I'm not trying to be an advocate for people that battle with depression, but I know that I am."

He also expressed his thoughts on those who seek help at rehabilitation centers. "Rehab is for quitters. You have to replace negative habits with positive habits, because everything for me is a trigger."

This isn't the first time Gates has shared an unpopular opinion. In a video from late August, Kevin caused a bit of a stir when he said Colin Kapernick "should have never took a knee." "We bow for no man under the stars but Allah. He should have stood palms up," he pointed out.

Since being released from prison in January 2018, Kevin Gates has seldom done interviews, but in his one with Zane Lowe, the artist reveals this is his first time he's "truly been free."

"I always had a warrant or something pending," he explains to Lowe. "I mean, I'm not trying to sound like this nature lover or nothing like that, but when I was working out, I saw a bird that was so beautiful in my front yard, and I was like man, that bird beautiful. It was a beautiful thing to me, and I know before having this conversation with you, maybe years prior, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy that because I always had something over my head lingering."

Aside from their talk, Zane also premiered Gates' latest track, "Adding Up." The new song, along with "Money Long" and "Great Man," are his first offerings off Luca Brasi 3, which is slated to drop this Thursday, Sept. 27.
