Today in Tha Wire, one day after the Kim Kardashian robbery in Paris, the rumble of background chatter is casting doubt about the story being being true. In other words, some are starting to suspect the whole thing was an elaborate hoax for publicity. Why anyone would lie about something like this, I don't know. TMZ reports what's adding fuel to the flame of doubt is the fact that there's no video for authorities to examine.

I must admit, it is rather odd that high profile celebs like the Kardashians are staying anywhere there are no security cameras. But allegedly, that is the case in this particular situation However, if this is true, maybe there are no cameras because it's an ultra-private hotel, or in an area with no crime, so there's no need for surveillance. I don't know.

According to reports, there was one camera on site, and the footage was useless because it didn't face the front of the building. Other than that, there are supposedly no surveillance cameras inside or outside the premises of the super-exclusive establishment. And that's a problem if you're trying to find out how someone got into the building, or better yet, how they left.

French police report they've canvassed the entire area, even trying to get video footage from surrounding businesses. So far, they've come up empty handed.
Meanwhile, TMZ says they've learned that, contrary to previous reports, only one cell phone was stolen from Kim's apartment, not two. In addition, that particular phone is said to have had no "compromising information" on it. That's certainly good news.

Back on suspicions the robbery is a hoax. FoxNews reports private investigator, Patricia D'Orsa-Dijamco, ain't buying the story. Matter of fact, she's raising some good questions surrounding the case, such as: “How did Kardashian free herself from being tied up in the bathroom?" and "Who found Kardashian in the hotel room or bathroom?" And if there were no security cameras, was there no hotel security either? If not...WHY? D’Orsa-Dijamco went on to suggest that, “If this was a publicity stunt, she could be in big trouble for making a false police report. Does Ryan Lochte sound familiar?” Ouch! Well, hopefully all those questions and more will be answered soon.

By the way, D’Orsa-Dijamco isn't the only person associated with law enforcement who's got a problem with the story line. Former undercover DEA and current police trial expert, Michael Levine, told FoxNews the first time he heard about Kardashian being robbed, he thought it was an elaborate hoax, as well. Levine said, “It was one of the first possibilities that occurred to me. By now, the French police might have a good idea of this," he continued. "However, I'm certain they will say nothing. They have enough problems.”

Pointing out Paris officials are dealing with major issues, he said, “The amount of terrorism problems, threats and investigations ongoing in France right now likely has every man and woman with a badge working double-time, so if you wanted to run a hoax or publicity stunt - and I am not saying that is what they did - but France would be the place to do it.”

In all fairness though, the above statements are simply their opinions and nothing more. Besides, not everybody believes Kardashian is trying to get some pub. FOX411 reports an unidentified NYPD detective told them that the robbery sounds legit, adding, “Most likely, they knew she was staying there and cased the spot, but it’s more likely they are blowing the story up for publicity because she has a huge security detail." The detective went on to say, "She most likely has something new that’s going to happen.”

WWTDD's Lex Jurgen also doesn't believe the robbery was made-up, making a very good point: Kim Kardashian isn't hurting for attention. Jurgen reasoned, “She has so many ways to get publicity that don’t involve her getting arrested for lying to the police." Plus, "She could lose her top at Fashion Week and get 10 million SEO hits."

One thing's for sure, the French authorities are working diligently to solve the case. If and when they find suspects or any evidence surrounding the case, I'll be sure to keep you in the loop. That said, don't miss the new season of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” debuting October 23rd on E!.
