In the past, Kobe Bryant has been accused of not speaking out enough when it comes to problems that plague the black community, but maybe some of that talk will now cease.

According to TMZ, the retired NBA player has reached out to the family of Jordan Edwards, the 15-year-old who was shot and killed by a Dallas police officer. At the time, Jordan and his friends were driving away from a party when police arrived, and that’s when the officer opened fire.

Bryant sent a birthday gift to Kevon Edwards, Jordan’s brother who was in the car with him at the time of the shooting. Kobe sent Kevon an autographed jersey, along with some sneakers from his collecton. “Do epic things,” the hoop legend wrote on the jersey. “God bless. Much love.”

Roy Oliver, the officer who killed the teen, has since been fired and charged with murder, and both of those things happened fairly quickly after the tragic incident.
