Today in Tha Wire, the City of Los Angeles announced that August 24, 2016 will forever been known as "Kobe Bryant Day." This year has been bitter-sweet for the basketball legend. After 20 years in the game, Kobe Bryant said goodbye to the NBA and retired. Shortly afterward, he and his wife revealed they were expecting their third child.

In spite of all the pomp and circumstance of his last game, the City of Los Angeles wants to acknowledge Kobe in their own way. So tomorrow they will not only celebrate his amazing career as an L.A. Laker, but his long list of accomplishments and philanthropy work with the youth and homeless in city. Tomorrow is perfect, because the date, 8-24, gives a nod to the only numbers Kobe wore during his career.

Today is the NBA great's 38th birthday, and tomorrow he'll get to celebrate it all over again with his city, family, friends and fans. According to reports, Councilman Huizar said of the upcoming 'holiday':

"'Kobe Bryant Day' is the City of Los Angeles' way of thanking him for his single-minded dedication to excellence, the fans and the entire City and region of Los Angeles.

For 20 years, we were all the beneficiaries of Kobe’s incredible talent and legendary work ethic, and on 8-24 we’ll gather to say, 'Thank you, Mamba.'"

By the way, if you wondered what retirement looks like for the former NBA player...the answer is pretty darn good. Reportedly, Kobe just launched a $100 million investment firm! Happy birthday Kobe and congrats.
