Lake Charles Film Festival Seeking Submissions

The second annual Lake Charles Film Festival will take place October 4-5 at Historic Central School, 809 Kirby St. in Lake Charles. The festival is currently seeking entries for films that have been completed after January 1, 2011 and are under 151 minutes long.

There are submission categories for Feature Film, Documentary, Short Film, Foreign Film, Home Grown, Student, Music Video and Animation. The first place winner in each category will receive a certificate and a “Scallywag” award trophy. The second and third place winners will receive a trophy and a certificate. In addition, the first place winner of each category will be entered into the “Best of Show – Feature” and “Best of Show – Short” categories.

Besides viewing films, this year’s festival includes a celebrity guest appearance by actor and indie filmmaker Jackson Bostwick. Bostick will lead an independent film production and acting workshop called “Keep It Simple…the Indie Filmmakers’ Pit Falls.” Low-budget, horror filmmaker Jim DeVault will return for another round of low budget filmmaking workshops. Authors Ed and Susan Poole will be back displaying their historical collection of all of the films made in, or about, Louisiana. Professional screenwriter Ken Henderson, founding member of both the Lake Area Film Group and Lake Area Film Scribes, will lead a screenwriting workshop on the fundamentals. Writer/Director/Actor Larry Wade Carrell will teach a session on the making of his multi-award winning horror film, “Jacob.”

More information and submission forms are available on lakecharlesfilmfestival.com. The deadline for entries is September 1. Films from Sowela and McNeese State University students may be submitted for free.

The Lake Charles Film Festival is produced by Louisiana Film & Video Art, Inc., a non-profit organization formed to bring quality independent film festivals, special film screenings, and educational filmmaking workshops to Lake Charles and showcase the artistic talents of Louisiana filmmakers around the world.
