A Lake Charles man died in a rollover crash on I-10 over the weekend.

The Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the accident on May 14, 2017, after 5 p.m. east of Iowa, in Jefferson Davis Parish. Tire failure is attributed to what caused a 1997 Ford pickup to come to a rest on its roof on the service road. The truck driven by 59-year-old Randal Karl Stewart of Lake Charles was reportedly traveling east on I-10 when LSP says he overcorrected the truck, which is what caused the vehicle to leave the highway.

Stewart was reportedly wearing a seat belt but sustained life-threatening injuries that required he be taken to Jennings American Legion Hospital where sadly he was pronounced dead.

The crash is still under investigation, while investigators wait for a toxicology report.

So far in 2017, 9 fatal crashes resulting in 12 deaths have been investigated by LSP Troop D. It is always wise to be alert when you're driving, and to remain off of electronic devices and to not drink and drive. Drive safe!
